Dat Kho - Land of Sorrows is available for purchase on the Caachi website.

Dat Kho (Land of Sorrows), a 1970s foreign, English-subtitled film, starring the beloved Vietnamese iconic songwriter/poet/painter Trinh Cong Son (1939-2001) in what may be his only starring movie role, dramatizes the effect of the Vietnam War on a single South Vietnamese family, the inner conflict of decisions by each member of the family whether to remain in Vietnam or leave with the imminent fall of the city of Hue and eventual fall of Vietnam.

It compresses three seminal events of the Vietnam war: (1) the Buddhist uprising in Hue during 1965; (2) the Tet Offensive in 1968; and (3) the 1972 "Summer of Fire". It includes real footage of refugees fleeing the North Vietnamese' Easter Offensive of 1972.

With that real war footage serving as the backdrop, "Dat Kho" is a story of the love of family, homeland, and culture and language of Vietnam. It also is about the ethereal love of the ingenue daughter for her fiance, foiled by the antagonistic forces of the ever-present war. It is thought-provoking, and at the same time it directly relates to present day conflicts such as the Gulf War and Iraq. It challenges the reasons for foreign involvement in essentially a civil war and questions the lessons learned or that should have been learned.

Journey to the West examines the roots of traditional Chinese
medicine, its incarnation in modern-day China, and its adaptation in
the United States. Rare footage of traditional medical practices in the
People's Republic of China is intercut with interviews of some of the
leading Chinese medical practitioners here in the United States.

Conceived and shot over a period of three years, Journey to the West
is an insightful investigation of the connection between art, culture
and medicine. The film introduces a few of the diverse people who are
devoted to this medical practice, including Dr. Ho, a self-taught
herbalist living in the foothills of the Himalayas; Wu Zhongxian, a
martial arts master who performs a wide range of indigenous Chinese
healing methods; and students attending a modern-day Chinese medical
school in Shanghai. Back in the U.S., teachers, students and
practitioners of Chinese medicine working in California and New York
showcase their work in contemporary Chinese medicine. Journey to the West offers a unique perspective on a growing cross-cultural phenomenon.

As the world fixes its attention on political tensions in the Middle East, everyday residents of the Kingdom of Jordan live out their lives. The things that matter most to people go on in the shadow of war.

Ashtar, a young Jordanian woman from a traditional family seeks greater personal freedom. She gets permission from her father to attend a youth conference. Her brother, Jihad, is challenged by his friends. How can he allow his sister to mingle freely at a modern event with young men present? Jihad assures them that only women will attend.

Can a lie be told in service of a greater truth? What are the duties of a daughter to her father? And what does it take to become a woman who seeks equality in a man’s world?

SAMT delves deep into
Jordanian culture, politics, and everyday life to capture the drama of
this brother and sister, and doubles as a larger examination of the
clash between modernization and ancient tradition.

Directed by Rob Nilsson, winner of the Camera d'Or at Cannes and the
Grand Jury Prize at Sundance.

Winter Oranges, directed by Rob Nilsson, winner of the Camera d'Or at Cannes and the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, follows the life of Ryuki who lives on Sagi, a small island off the coast of Hiroshima. His ancestors have always grown oranges and scallions but Ryuki is tired of all that.

Although his wife Kaori is expecting their first child, Ryuki dreams about going to Tokyo to work in the theatre. He wanders the island distracted but inspired by Basho, a wandering Japanese poet from the 17th Century.

But with modern instant communication what does travel mean? Can we really get away from anything any longer? And now Ryuki meets temptation in the person of a visiting Tokyo journalist and her friend, who come to Sagi to view the mythical "Winter Orange" festival.

Moody as a Basho Haiku, the film is about Ryuki’s decision. Should he stay with what he has always known or venture into the world to take his chances? In the end the unanswered question is asked in each viewer’s heart.
