Plot Outline

Joe is a serial apologist. Totally self-absorbed, he says "I'm sorry" so often, even he doesn't know what the words mean anymore—that is, until a female he tramples refuses his apology. Face to face with his own hypocrisy, he learns just how powerful sincerity can be.

The Apologist, starring New York film veteran Christopher King (Quiz Show, Devil's Advocate) and Broadway diva Stephanie Bast (Miss Saigon, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Nine) has been most aptly described as "a whip smart New York comedy" (Jason Ebelthite). Shot on film by Award-winning cinematographer, Jon Miller (American Beer), and edited by Frank Reynolds, editor of the 5-time Academy Award-nominated film In the Bedroom, it features a full orchestral score composed and arranged by Brian Aumueller (Alias).

Reviews

"...well made and very well acted" — Richard Shepard (Writer/Director, The Matador starring Pierce Brosnan & Greg Kinnear)

"...one of the best short films in the festival this year" — Elliot Grove (Director, Raindance)

"a taut, tightly focused piece shot on the streets of NYC the way a short film should be. ...great choice of shots and well-edited. ...I love knowing that I'm in good cinemagraphic hands... so I can focus on just sitting back and watching the story unfold." — Bruce Kennedy (Emmy Award-winning Writer/Director & Co-Executive Producer, RIPFest)

"a whip smart New York comedy" — Jason Ebelthite (Writer/Director, London UK)

"one of the few shorts I've ever wanted to be longer" — Phil Smy (Writer/Producer)

"Chris King is a rare combination of born comedian and excellent actor" — Robert McCaskill (Acting Coach)

"I was trying to listen to the sound for problems but I kept getting distracted by the story! A lovely and charming film." — Joe Monge (Vice President of Video Operations, DuArt Film and Video, NYC)

"very funny and beautiful to watch" — René Pinnell (Writer/Director)

"The best short film I've seen in years" — Charles Barton Bollfrass (Hububashu Films)

"Anger, surprise, vulnerability and aggression are all transformed into a 7 minute film. This must be a quantum law of physics... that being alive is a curious phenomenon... and being alive in New York is always intensely unpredictable... and enjoyable!" — Grace Cavalieri (Producer/Host, "The Poet and the Poem from the Library of Congress")

"Christopher King's performance is extremely engaging and painfully honest" — Ronald Parker (Writer, Joan of Arc starring Leelee Sobieski & Peter O'Toole; Producer, Broken Trail starring Robert Duvall & Thomas Haden Church)
