More About Laptop from Producer Public Interest

In Spring 2000, President Clinton announced a new televised campaign to address the “digital divide” — the lack of access that most low-income minority families have to information resources such as the internet. The President was referring to two spots we produced and distributed to a wide range of networks and local stations. We at Public Interest believe that people lacking the ability to use a computer are at a serious disadvantage as they enter into the workforce in this Information Age.

The Kaiser Family Foundation approached us about doing this important campaign that had been requested from members of staff in the Clinton administration. Larry Frye was a @radical.media commercial director at the time and we invited him to direct this and one other spot. He immediately realized this was a worthy cause and was happy to help. The campaign consisted of 2 spots, Laptop, and Don’t Worry, which were run on various English and Spanish speaking networks.

This is the first time Laptop is featured in a festival setting. The producers of Public Interest are very proud to be part of a festival specializing in innovative advertising and prestigious public service campaigns.
